Indie Punk

Indie punk is a strain of punk rock shaped by the values and melodic instincts of indie rock: fast, loud and deliberately unpolished, but built around pop songcraft, personal lyrics and self-released records rather than hardcore aggression or major-label polish. Its guitar sound favours jangling, overdriven chords and breathless tempos, its choruses are written to be shouted along to, and its scene infrastructure — independent labels, college radio, zines and all-ages venues — is part of the music's meaning. The style crystallised in American college towns in the early 1990s and was renewed by a largely British and American wave of bands in the 2010s.
