Industrial Dub

Industrial Dub

Industrial dub is a 1990s fusion of Jamaican dub technique with industrial and post-industrial music, developed in Britain and New York by producers including *Kevin Martin*, *Justin Broadrick* and *Mick Harris*. It applies dub's mixing-desk method, cavernous echo, delay and sub-bass, to distorted beats, metal-derived textures and hip hop tempos, producing slow, oppressive instrumentals occasionally broken by MCs or sampled voices. Scenes around Martin's *Macro Dub Infection* compilations and Brooklyn's #WordSound# label gave the style its canon, which later fed into dubstep and industrial hip hop.
