Italo Dance

Italo Dance

Italo dance is the Italian branch of Eurodance, a commercial dance music style that developed in the mid-1990s and reached its peak between 1999 and 2005. It is built on four-on-the-floor beats at roughly 130 to 140 BPM, piano-led chord riffs, pitched and filtered vocals, and short English-language hooks designed for radio as much as for clubs. Where northern Eurodance favoured rave stabs, the Italian variant kept a melodic, song-based core inherited from Italo disco. *Eiffel 65*'s "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" carried the style to number one in more than a dozen countries in 1999, and producers such as *Gigi D'Agostino* and *Gabry Ponte* sustained it into the 2000s.
