Japanoise

Japanoise is the body of harsh noise music produced in Japan since the late 1970s, an extreme form built from feedback, distortion, junk electronics and overloaded recording equipment. Where much Western noise emphasises rhythm or drone, the Japanese variant favours dense, rapidly shifting walls of sound, abrupt edits and extreme volume, often performed with theatrical physicality. Centred on independent labels, mail-order networks and small live houses, the scene produced a disproportionately influential catalogue, and its leading figures reshaped international noise, grindcore and experimental music through relentless touring and collaboration.
