Jazz-Rock

Jazz-Rock

Originating in the late 1960s, Jazz-Rock merges the improvisational ethos and harmonic complexity of jazz with the amplified textures and rhythmic force of rock music. The genre is characterized by a sonic palette favoring electric instrumentation, including prominent electric guitars, keyboards like the Fender Rhodes and synthesizers, and often retaining a traditional jazz horn section. It prioritizes instrumental virtuosity and extended soloing over conventional song structures. This approach led to a divergence in the 1970s, with some artists pushing further into experimental territory while others refined the sound into a more polished, commercially successful form that significantly influenced both progressive rock and mainstream pop.
