Jazzstep

Jazzstep

Jazzstep is a subgenre of drum and bass that developed in the United Kingdom in the mid-1990s, fusing jungle's breakbeat programming with the instrumentation and harmony of jazz and jazz-funk. Productions layer chopped Amen and funk breaks with double-bass lines, Rhodes piano, brass stabs and guitar figures, keeping tempos near 170 BPM while favoring musical development over dancefloor aggression. Associated with producers such as *Alex Reece*, *Peshay* and *Wax Doctor*, and with the smoother wing of the #Good Looking Records# and #Moving Shadow# catalogues, jazzstep stood between the atmospheric and dancefloor schools and fed into liquid funk at the decade's end.
