Jersey Club Rap

Jersey Club Rap

Jersey Club Rap is rap performed over Jersey club production, the Newark-born dance style descended from Baltimore club. Beats run at roughly 130 to 140 beats per minute, built from chopped breakbeats, triplet kick patterns, bed-squeak samples and shouted call-and-response chants designed for club dancers. Rappers ride these tracks with short, percussive phrases, repeated hooks and verses that stay locked to the kick, a delivery shaped by the music's origin in party records and DJ tools. Centred on Newark and its diaspora, the style moved from local mixtapes and social media to major-label releases in the early 2020s.
