Jersey Drill

Jersey drill is the New Jersey hybrid of drill rap and Jersey club music that emerged from Newark around 2021. Where New York drill rides sliding 808s over sampled loops, Jersey drill producers — pre-eminently *MCVERTT* — set drill's flows and subject matter over Jersey club's breakneck kick patterns, chopped vocal samples and bed-squeak effects at club tempo. *Bandmanrill*'s vocal version of MCVERTT's instrumental "Heartbroken" (2021) launched the style virally, and the pair, with Bronx rapper *Sha EK*, codified it on the 2023 mixtape "Defiant Presents: Jiggy in Jersey".
