Jersey Shore Sound

Jersey Shore Sound

The Jersey Shore sound is a style of rock and roll associated with Asbury Park, New Jersey, that developed in the late 1960s and 1970s. It fuses rock with rhythm and blues, soul and blues, performed by large bar bands built around horn sections, organ and harmony singing, and shaped by the boardwalk club circuit of the Shore. Its leading figures, *Bruce Springsteen* and *Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes*, combined Van Morrison and Stax influences with working-class storytelling, producing a communal, live-oriented music that became the signature sound of the Asbury Park scene and a foundation of heartland rock.
