Jingles

Jingles are short, self-contained songs composed to advertise a product, brand or broadcaster, built around a brief melodic hook and a repeated slogan engineered for instant recognition and long-term recall. The form grew with commercial radio in the 1920s and reached its height on American radio and television between the 1950s and the 1980s, when specialist writers and session singers produced miniature songs to order: *Barry Manilow* wrote and sang themes for State Farm and Band-Aid, *Jake Holmes* wrote "Be All That You Can Be" for the US Army, and the industry honoured the craft through the CLIO Awards.
