Jump-Up

Jump-up is a subgenre of drum and bass that emerged in the United Kingdom in the mid-1990s, defined by playful, hip-hop-influenced samples, simple two-step beats and above all by melodic, oscillating 'wobble' basslines designed for immediate dancefloor response. Pioneered by the Ganja Records and True Playaz circle around *DJ Zinc*, *DJ Hype* and *Pascal*, and by *Aphrodite*'s rolling productions, it stood as the music's populist wing against the darker techstep sound. After a minimal, bass-led second wave in the 2000s, jump-up returned in the 2010s and 2020s as a festival mainstay through producers such as *Macky Gee*, *Hedex* and *Bou*.
