Kosmische Musik

Kosmische Musik — 'cosmic music' — is the expansive electronic and rock music made in West Germany around 1970–75 by *Tangerine Dream*, *Klaus Schulze*, *Ash Ra Tempel*, *Popol Vuh* and their circle, much of it issued on *Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser*'s #Ohr# and #Kosmische Kuriere# labels. Built from synthesizers, organs, guitars and tape, it favours long, slowly mutating forms, sequenced pulses and drones over song structures, aiming at altered, space-bound states of listening. It overlaps the wider krautrock movement but names its most contemplative, cosmos-fixated wing, and it fed directly into ambient and Berlin School electronic music.
