Kr茅yol djaz

Kr茅yol djaz is the jazz of the French Caribbean, developed in Martinique and Guadeloupe by musicians who fused the harmonic and improvisational language of jazz with the dance rhythms and Creole song traditions of the islands. Biguine, mazurka, zouk and gwo ka drumming supply its rhythmic foundation, while piano-led trios and horn ensembles adapt standards and original compositions to those cadences. Singing in French Creole is common, and the music moves between intimate club jazz and festival dance floors. It functions both as a concert music and as a marker of Antillean cultural identity within the Francophone world.
