Latin Disco

Latin Disco

Latin disco is the fusion of disco with salsa and other Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican dance idioms that flourished in New York in the mid-to-late 1970s. Its records place congas, timbales, bongos and cowbell over a four-on-the-floor disco pulse, with orchestral strings, brass riffs, charanga flutes and violins, and singing in Spanish and Spanglish. The style was centred on #Salsoul Records#, founded by the Cayre brothers and described as the definitive disco label, where salsa bandleaders such as *Joe Bataan*, *Eddie Palmieri* and *Candido* cut club records. Latin disco supplied much of disco's percussive vocabulary and fed directly into house music.
