Latin Rap

Latin rap is hip hop performed primarily in Spanish by artists from Latin America, Spain and the Latino United States, encompassing regional scenes with distinct sounds rather than a single unified style. Its production draws on boom bap and trap as well as salsa, cumbia, reggaeton and other Latin forms, and its writing moves between street reportage, political commentary and cultural affirmation. From Vico C's foundational work in Puerto Rico in the 1980s through the Chilean, Mexican, Argentine, Colombian and Spanish scenes, Spanish-language rap developed as one of the largest branches of global hip hop.
