Latin Trap

Latin Trap

Latin trap is the Spanish-language branch of trap music, developed from 2015 by Puerto Rican and diaspora artists who rebuilt Atlanta trap's hi-hats, 808s and minor-key piano over reggaeton's industry and lyrical world. Spearheaded by *Anuel AA*, *Bryant Myers* and the 2016 posse cut "La Ocasión", it replaced reggaeton's dancefloor romanticism with explicit street narrative — drugs, prison, loyalty and violence — delivered in Puerto Rican slang. Briefly suppressed by radio and press moral panic, it became the commercial engine that carried *Bad Bunny* and a generation of urbano artists to global pop.
