Leftfield House

Leftfield house is the experimental wing of house music: four-on-the-floor club music bent by dub space, IDM detail, downtempo melancholy and unusual samples, made as much for headphones as for the floor. *Four Tet* and *Jamie xx* carried it to festival scale on "In Colour", while *Mount Kimbie*, *Floating Points* and *Leon Vynehall* folded in post-rock dynamics, jazz harmony and ambient drift. It keeps house's pulse but treats the album, not the twelve-inch single, as its central statement.
