Liquid Drum and Bass

Liquid drum and bass, first named liquid funk, is the melodic and soulful branch of drum and bass. It keeps the genre's fast, rolling breakbeats and deep sub-bass but replaces aggression with musicality: jazz, funk, soul and disco samples, Rhodes and piano chords, live-sounding instrumentation and frequent sung vocals. The style was named by DJ *Fabio* around 1999 and developed by producers including *Calibre*, *High Contrast*, *Logistics* and *London Elektricity*, largely through #Hospital Records# and #Good Looking Records#. A 2020s generation led by *Nia Archives* has fused the liquid approach with a jungle revival.
