Lithuanian Folk Music

Lithuanian folk music is the traditional music of Lithuania, centred on the dainos, a vast repertory of lyric and ritual songs, and on the sutartin臈s, archaic multipart songs in which two or three voices interlock in canon at the interval of a second, inscribed by *UNESCO* in 2010. Its instruments include the kankl臈s zither, skudu膷iai panpipes, reed horns, the d奴dmai拧is bagpipe and fiddle, played by village ensembles for calendar feasts, weddings and funerals. Since the late Soviet period a strong revival, led by groups such as *K奴lgrinda* and *Atalyja*, has carried the repertory from archive to stage.
