Mallsoft

Mallsoft is a subgenre of vaporwave that evokes the atmosphere of shopping malls and consumer spaces, built from slowed, reverberant samples of muzak, smooth jazz, easy listening and 1980s pop. Producers such as *Cat System Corp.*, whose "Palm Mall" (2014) is the genre's defining statement, *Disconscious* and *PowerPCME* stretch source material into spacious, echoing loops that suggest empty food courts, fountains and closing-time announcements. Where other vaporwave addresses the internet and the office, mallsoft treats the suburban retail interior, and its decline, as its central subject.
