Martial Industrial

Martial Industrial

Martial industrial is a subgenre of industrial music that combines military marches, neoclassical orchestration and dark ambient with samples of historical speeches, battle sounds and ceremonial drumming. Emerging in Europe in the 1980s and 1990s out of the post-industrial and neofolk underground, it favors slow, processional tempos, brass and string arrangements, choral voices and an aesthetic of uniforms, ruins and historical memory. *Laibach* supplied an early model with their appropriation of totalitarian pageantry, and acts such as *Derni猫re Volont茅*, *Blood Axis*, *Der Blutharsch* and *Triarii* codified the genre's Wagnerian, funereal sound, which overlaps substantially with neofolk and neoclassical dark wave.
