Melodic Dubstep

Melodic dubstep is the song-oriented, emotionally direct strain of American EDM that softened dubstep's aggression into festival-sized pop: soaring supersaw chords, plucked synth leads and euphoric half-time drops at 140 to 150 BPM, usually built around a guest vocalist. Emerging around 2010 from producers like *Blackmill* and *Seven Lions*, it fused dubstep's drop architecture with trance arpeggios and pop choruses, and producers such as *Illenium*, *Said the Sky* and *Adventure Club* carried it to arena scale in the mid-2010s. Critics often dismiss it as sentimental, but its blend of vulnerability and physical impact made it one of the defining sounds of 2010s American dance music.
