Melodic Techno

Melodic techno is a 2010s strain of techno built on emotive melody, harmonic progression and cinematic atmosphere rather than industrial force. Tracks run at 118-124 beats per minute on a four-four kick, with arpeggiated synths, minor-key chord sequences, deep rolling basslines and long, euphoric breakdowns borrowed from progressive house and trance. The Berlin label #Innervisions# and the duo *Tale of Us*, through their #Afterlife# imprint and parties, defined the sound, which moved techno toward large festival stages and a more song-like emotional arc without abandoning the dance floor.
