Microfunk

Microfunk is a minimal, glitch-inflected strain of drum and bass developed in St. Petersburg, Russia, from the late 2000s by producer *Bop* and the circle around his #Microfunk Music# label and Hospital Records' #Med School# imprint. It strips the genre to clicks, sub-bass pulses and sparse melodic fragments, processing drums into intricate micro-edited patterns at the standard 170 BPM while leaving unusual amounts of silence and space. Allied to the autonomic and minimal drum and bass movements, microfunk treats the dancefloor format as a frame for sound design and quiet detail.
