Micromontage

Micromontage

Micromontage is an electroacoustic composition technique, named by the composer *Horacio Vaggione*, in which recorded sound is edited and arranged at the level of microsound: grains lasting from a few to several hundred milliseconds. Working in a digital audio editor, the composer places thousands of these particles along a precise timeline, building textures, rhythms and forms from clicks, sine tones and fragments of sampled audio. Closely associated with the microsound movement of the 1990s and 2000s, the technique underlies much of the output of artists such as *Ryoji Ikeda*, *Curtis Roads* and *Alva Noto*.
