Midtempo Bass

Midtempo bass is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in the mid-2010s, slowing bass music down to roughly 90-110 BPM and filling the space with industrial, cinematic menace. *Gesaffelstein*'s "Aleph" (2013) supplied the template of stark techno-industrial minimalism, and Canadian producer *Rezz* popularized the style from 2015 with hypnotic, downtempo bass tracks released through #mau5trap# and #Deadbeats#. Followers including *1788-L*, *Deathpact* and *KLOUD* favor distorted bass synthesis, half-time drums, horror and science-fiction imagery, and a deliberate starkness that contrasts with festival dubstep's maximalism.
