Minimal Drum and Bass

Minimal drum and bass is a stripped-back form of drum and bass that emerged in the late 2000s, replacing the genre's dense, maximal production with space, restraint and sub-bass weight. Beats are skeletal — often half-time in feel, built from clipped drum-machine hits and silence — while atmospheres drawn from dub techno, ambient and IDM drift over deep, physical basslines. The style is closely identified with the Autonomic movement, the name *dBridge* and *Instra:mental* gave their club night and podcast series around 2009, and with the related Russian-born microfunk sound of producers such as *Bop*.
