Moogsploitation

Moogsploitation denotes the wave of novelty and exploitation records released in the wake of *Wendy Carlos*'s "Switched-On Bach" (1968), in which established pop, classical, country and easy-listening repertoire was re-recorded on the Moog synthesizer to capitalize on the instrument's futuristic novelty. Produced mainly between 1968 and the mid-1970s by session arrangers and electronic pioneers such as *Jean-Jacques Perrey*, *Gershon Kingsley*, *Dick Hyman* and *Mort Garson*, these albums pair conventional arrangements with bleeping, monophonic synth leads and titles built on 'Moog' and 'switched-on' wordplay. Dismissed in their time as kitsch, they formed the first mass market for electronic sound and later became prized sources for sampling and space-age-pop revivalism.
