Moravian Folk Music

Moravian Folk Music

Moravian folk music is the traditional music of Moravia, the eastern region of the Czech lands, distinct from Bohemian practice in its cimbalom bands, its wine-country song culture and its closeness to Slovak and Carpathian styles across the border. In Slovácko, the southeastern district, a cimbálová muzika of violins, viola, double bass and hammered dulcimer accompanies dancing and the long, ornamented singing of harvest, wedding and recruiting songs. The Horňácko fiddle style around Velká nad Veličkou is prized as the most archaic in the country, and ensembles such as *Hradišťan* have made Moravian song the best-known face of Czech folklore.
