Música criolla peruana

Música criolla peruana is the urban popular music tradition of coastal Peru, centered in Lima, built from the fusion of Spanish, African and indigenous elements under colonial and republican society. Its core form is the vals criollo, a Peruvian waltz in 3/4, accompanied by Spanish guitar and cajón, alongside the marinera, festejo, landó and polka criolla. Guitar trios and solo singers perform a repertoire of romantic, patriotic and neighborhood subjects associated with Lima's traditional quarters. The tradition's defining composer is *Chabuca Granda*, and its classic interpreters include *Los Morochucos*, *Lucha Reyes* and *Eva Ayllón*.
