Nederbeat

Nederbeat

Nederbeat is the Dutch beat music movement of roughly 1964 to 1969, when hundreds of young Dutch bands answered the British Invasion in English: beat, rhythm-and-blues and freakbeat from The Hague ("Beat City"), Amsterdam and Groningen. Its best groups made records of international standing — *Q65* and their raw "Revolution", *The Outsiders* of Amsterdam, *Golden Earrings* and *Cuby + the Blizzards* — and the scene's later currents carried *Shocking Blue* to a worldwide number one with "Venus". Provo-era Amsterdam gave the music its hip image, and collectors now prize the movement's singles worldwide.
