Neo Kyma

Neo kyma, the Greek 'new wave', was a song movement of the mid-1960s to mid-1970s that fused Greek entechno composition with the intimacy of French chanson. Coined by composer *Giannis Spanos* after the Nouvelle Vague, it favored small ensembles, acoustic guitar and piano, literate poetry settings and quiet, conversational singing over the bouzouki-led laiko mainstream. Singers including *Arleta*, *Keti Chomata* and *Dionysis Savvopoulos* recorded chiefly for the #Lyra# label and performed in the bo卯tes of Plaka, Athens' old town. Neo kyma made the singer-songwriter the central figure of modern Greek song.
