Neo-Pagan Folk

Neo-Pagan Folk

Neo-pagan folk is a contemporary folk style that reconstructs the music of pre-Christian Europe — above all Norse and Germanic traditions, with Greek, Slavic and other branches — using historical instruments, archaic languages and ritual presentation. Practitioners such as *Wardruna*, *Heilung* and *Danheim* play tagelharpa, lyres, frame drums and bone flutes, chant Eddic poetry and runic texts, and frame performance as ceremony rather than concert. Distinct from both the traditional folk revival and neofolk's industrial lineage, though overlapping each, the style crystallised in the 2000s and reached a global audience through television, games and festival performances in the 2010s.
