Neo Rave

Neo rave is a form of hard dance music that emerged in the late 2010s, codified by the Belgian label #Rave Alert#, in which contemporary hard techno production is fused with the sounds of 1990s rave: hoover and stab synths, acid lines, trance arpeggios, gabber kicks and euphoric breakdowns. Tracks by *Creeds*, *DYEN* and *VCL* run at 140 to 160 BPM with modern, heavily compressed mixing, replacing the lo-fi roughness of early hardcore with festival-scale dynamics. The genre is distinct from the 2000s indie-dance 'new rave', sharing with it only the retrospective impulse toward rave's peak-time energy.
