Neocrust

Neocrust

Neocrust is a dark, melodic form of crust punk that developed in the late 1990s and 2000s, merging the d-beat drive and down-tuned heaviness of crust with the dynamics of screamo, sludge metal, black metal and post-metal. Where classic crust favored short, raw blasts, neocrust bands build longer songs from mournful guitar leads, tempo shifts and atmospheric passages, while keeping the DIY networks and anti-authoritarian politics of the punk underground. The style crystallized around *His Hero Is Gone* and *Tragedy* in the United States and the Spanish emo-crust scene of *Ekkaia* and *Ictus*, and spread through European acts such as *Fall of Efrafa* and *Alpinist*.
