Neoperreo

Neoperreo is an internet-native offshoot of reggaeton that emerged in the mid-2010s, led largely by women and queer artists reacting against reggaeton's commercial mainstream. Coined and codified by the Chilean artist *Tomasa del Real*, it keeps the dembow beat but strips the production to a lo-fi, distorted minimum, absorbing deconstructed club, trap and experimental electronic influences. Lyrics reclaim the explicitness of early perreo from a feminist position, and the scene's visual language — Y2K internet imagery, goth and cyber styling — is integral to it. Key figures include *Ms Nina*, *Isabella Lovestory*, *La Goony Chonga* and *Lizz*.
