Nerdcore Techno

Nerdcore Techno

Nerdcore techno is a Japanese style of the early 1990s that fuses techno, breakbeat and jungle with dense sampling of anime, video games, television and J-pop. Developed by the Osaka collective *Cycheouts* (also written Psycheouts) and circulated by labels such as Zen Nihon Records and Toy Label, it treats otaku culture as raw material: dialogue, theme tunes and sound effects are chopped over fast breakbeats with a comic, nostalgic charge. Largely documented in Japanese sources and doujin distribution, it is regarded as a foundation of the later J-core scene, though its own allegiance is to techno and jungle rather than gabber.
