Neue Deutsche Härte

Neue Deutsche Härte, 'new German hardness', is a German style of industrial metal that crystallised in the mid-1990s. It combines down-tuned, palm-muted guitar riffs locked to machine-like drums with synthesizers, sequenced electronics and samples drawn from EBM and techno, all produced with unusual cleanliness and force. Vocals are typically deep, declamatory and in German, delivered over martial, danceable grooves that privilege rhythmic impact over harmonic complexity. Established by *Oomph!* and carried worldwide by *Rammstein*, the style pairs its sonic regimentation with theatrical, often provocative imagery and a deliberate emphasis on German linguistic and cultural identity.
