New Tone

New Tone is the self-applied name of the contemporary, predominantly American ska scene that emerged in the late 2010s, coined by New Orleans band *Bad Operation* in reference to Britain's 2 Tone movement. It pairs the rhythmic language of ska and rocksteady with punk directness and an explicitly anti-racist, anti-capitalist politics, delivered by younger, more diverse bands than earlier American ska waves. Centred on the independent label #Bad Time Records# and its documentary "This Is New Tone", the scene treats ska as a living, forward-moving music.
