Nightcore

Nightcore is a remix style defined by a single operation: an existing song, traditionally a trance or Eurodance recording, is sped up by roughly 25 to 30 per cent, which raises its pitch by the same proportion and pushes tempos toward 160 to 180 BPM. The result is a bright, breathless, high-voiced version of the source, its vocals rendered cartoonish and its energy euphoric. Named after the Norwegian duo *Nightcore*, who devised the method in Alta in 2001, the style spread through file-sharing and YouTube as a fan practice, always presented as an edit of someone else's record rather than an original composition.
