Nintendocore

Nintendocore fuses post-hardcore and metalcore with chiptune: breakdowns, blast beats and screamed vocals collide with 8-bit melodies and sound effects drawn from Nintendo-era video games. The term was coined jokingly by *Nathan Winneke* of *HORSE the Band*, whose mid-2000s albums established the template of downtuned guitars and keyboards playing square-wave leads in unison. Spread through MySpace, the style gathered bands such as *Sky Eats Airplane*, *Math the Band* and *I Set My Friends on Fire*, and it anticipated the later mainstreaming of game sounds in metal and electronic music.
