Noise Drone

Noise drone is a form of experimental music positioned between drone and noise, in which sustained tones, feedback and heavily processed sound sources are held at high volume and density until texture itself becomes the musical event. Practitioners including *Khanate*, *Kevin Drumm* and *Yellow Swans* build pieces from guitar feedback, overloaded amplifiers, tape manipulation and synthesizer saturation, favoring slow internal change over melody or beat. Where ambient drone seeks calm, noise drone courts physical pressure and unease: tones accumulate harmonic distortion, sub-bass and surface grit, and performances are often experienced as much through bodily vibration as through listening.
