Nueva canci贸n latinoamericana

Nueva canci贸n latinoamericana is the Latin American new song movement that emerged in the 1960s, fusing the region's folk traditions with poetic, socially committed writing. Singers accompanied themselves on guitar and on Andean or regional folk instruments such as the charango, quena and bombo, setting texts about poverty, imperialism, indigenous rights and political resistance to melodies drawn from local song forms. Centred in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Cuba, where it developed as nueva trova, the movement became the musical voice of the Latin American left and was persecuted by the military dictatorships of the 1970s.
