脪rain Gh脿idhlig

脪rain Gh脿idhlig, Gaelic songs, is the song tradition of Scottish Gaeldom: a centuries-old repertoire of love songs, laments, praise poems, waulking songs and Jacobite and emigration ballads in Scottish Gaelic, carried by singers such as *Flora MacNeil* and *Ishbel MacAskill* and renewed for modern audiences by *Julie Fowlis*, *Runrig* and *Capercaillie*. Much of the repertoire descends from the great Gaelic bards and from anonymous communal composition in the townships of the Highlands and Hebrides, and its survival is bound to the survival of the language itself.
