Outrun

Outrun is the founding style of synthwave, named after *Kavinsky*'s 2013 album "OutRun" and the 1986 arcade racer that inspired it. Built by French and European producers steeped in electro house and film scores, it evokes a neon 1980s of night drives, VHS horror and arcade machines: analog synth arpeggios, gated drums, chrome melodies and, in its darker branch, slasher-film dread. From blog-era singles, *Perturbator*, *Carpenter Brut* and *Dance With the Dead* turned it into a global underground with its own festivals, artwork language and retro-futurist mythology.
