P-Funk

P-Funk is the psychedelic funk style developed by *George Clinton* through his twin groups *Parliament* and *Funkadelic*, built on deep, monotonic basslines, squelchy synthesizer textures, tight syncopated horn charts, extended collective improvisation and heavy guitar. Where *Funkadelic* leaned toward rock, *Parliament* pursued dancefloor funk wrapped in an elaborate science-fiction mythology of the Mothership, Starchild and Dr. Funkenstein. Performed by a large rotating collective in extravagant stage spectacle, P-Funk synthesized the innovations of *James Brown*, *Sly Stone* and *Jimi Hendrix* into a self-contained musical universe that later supplied foundational samples and concepts to hip hop, G-funk and modern R&B.
