Pasodoble

The pasodoble is a Spanish march-like dance music in duple time, written chiefly for wind band and inseparable from the bullfight, the fiesta and the ballroom. Its name, 'double step', matches its brisk, accented tread: short, brilliant pieces built from a bold opening strain, a lyrical trio and stirring codas, composed to accompany the paseo of the cuadrilla, honour famous toreros or celebrate towns and festivals. Composers such as *Pascual Marquina*, author of "España cañÃ", made the pasodoble Spain's most recognisable popular instrumental form.
