Peruvian Music

Peruvian music is the music of Peru, a field defined by the meeting of Indigenous Andean, Spanish colonial and African traditions across three regions: the Andes, the coast and the Amazon. Its emblematic forms include the huayno of the highlands, played on charango, quena and harp; the m煤sica criolla of Lima, centred on the vals peruano and the caj贸n; Afro-Peruvian genres such as land贸 and festejo; and the electric cumbias of the Amazon and the capital's chicha. Composers and performers from *Chabuca Granda* to *Susana Baca* have carried these idioms from local practice to international recognition.
