Philippine Music

Philippine Music

Philippine music is the body of music produced by Filipino artists and traditions, spanning indigenous kulintang gong ensembles, Spanish-influenced kundiman and harana serenades, the brass band heritage of the American colonial era, and the modern popular output branded as OPM (Original Pilipino Music). Landmarks range from *Freddie Aguilar*'s "Anak", one of Asia's best-selling singles, to the alternative rock of *Eraserheads*, whose "Cutterpillow" became the biggest-selling album by a Philippine band. Across its forms it preserves regional languages and a songwriting culture central to Filipino identity.
