Philly Club Rap

Philly club rap is Philadelphia's fusion of regional club music and rap: rapid-fire local MCs riding the fast, chopped club beats — bed squeaks, hollered vocal snippets, gun-cock effects, sudden restarts — that descend from Baltimore club through the city's own party tradition. Philadelphia club DJ culture, built by figures such as *DJ Diamond Kuts* and *DJ Sega*, supplied the beats; a young generation of rappers made them songs. The style broke nationally in the early 2020s through *D4M $loan*, *Zah Sosaa* and the *Philly Goats*, and through *Lil Uzi Vert*'s club-built hit "Just Wanna Rock".
